A timetable of the award process as it
stands:-
- Trainer purchases candidate packs
preferably prior to, or at the start of the course. (Stocks of packs may be
purchased in advance and are not linked to a particular course)
- The TRAINER is responsible for arranging their own
assessment from the list supplied on
request by the Branch, depending on that trainer’s personal RLSS status.
However, the same Assessor may not conduct more than 3 consecutive assessments
for the same Trainer. (If the Life Support element is assessed at a date other
than the Bronze Medallion element, this counts as 2 assessments.)
- Trainer sends completed Assessment Registration Form from
the Guide to Administration, including names of candidates and proposed
Assessors, together with the Certificate Order Forms from the Candidate packs,
to River House at least 28 days prior to the assessment. If the Life
Support element is assessed at an earlier date to the Bronze Medallion
element, this does not need to be registered in advance. For
clarification however, details for the Life Support assessment should be
included in the Registration Form when it is sent to River House.
- Trainer will then be sent the
certificates and medallions in advance of the assessment.
- If for any reason, arrangements are made for a different
Assessor from that quoted on the Registration Form, the Branch Awards Officer must be advised and approval for the change obtained.
- On successful completion of the
assessment, Trainer gives certificates to Assessor for signature and can then
present them to candidates.
- If a candidate fails any section,
they can retake it within 28 days with no additional assessment fee. The
Assessor should note the failure below the box on the exam form referring to
that section, ensuring it is dated, and not within the box itself.
(Similar to NRASTC)
- Trainer sends the ‘lilac’ copy of
the exam forms for successful candidates, together with the payment for Assessor
attendance in the case of 'commercial' courses, plus certificates and medallions for
any who will not complete the award, to the Branch Awards Officer
within 14 days of the final assessment.
Candidates who have passed the Life Support element only and do not intend
continuing may be awarded the
appropriate Life Support certificate at no additional cost. However, the
Trainer is responsible for obtaining a Life Support exam form from their Area
Manager, obtaining the Assessor's signature and forwarding it to the Awards Officer together with the 'lilac' copy of the Bronze Medallion exam form,
the medallion certificate, and bronze medallion, so that they can be cancelled.
Trainers should be aware
that a copy of the Assessment Registration Form is sent to the Branch Awards Officer from River House for vetting, and the Branch Management
Committee can veto any arrangement. They can also declare the assessment
invalid if any of the above procedures have not been complied with.
