Can you help?

Volunteers are urgently needed to fill the posts of  several Area Managers.  It is not vital that Area Managers actually live within their area of responsibility.

Audrey Staines 16.9.1918 – 20.6.2008

We were very saddened to hear of the death of one of the founder members of the Branch.  Our condolences go out to her family.

Audrey died at home after a short illness.

Throughout her life she has been a great sports woman, which included ice skating, tennis and swimming.  Audrey taught swimming for the schools within the City of Oxford for over fifty years.  Her enthusiasm for swimming started when she was a young girl. This culminated in her becoming a teacher, examiner, tutor and life member of the Royal Life Saving Society.  Audrey was presented to the Queen Mother and Prince Michael of Kent in recognition of her lifelong voluntary work with the Royal Life Saving Society. For many years Audrey was Branch Secretary and Area Organiser for Oxford.  She continued to be an enthusiastic member of the TV Branch and although in her later years was unable to attend meetings, she always took a keen interested in the activities of the Society right up until her death.

A June 2008 edition of "Waterbourne" was not produced as the Editor only received one article for publication.

Thames Valley hosted 3 Babysafe road shows in February 2008, 2 in Slough and 1 in Reading.  These were attended by parents of young children who had the opportunity to learn CPR and the treatment for choking on an infant and child. The sessions were led by RLSS with the help of local doctors. Each session was attended by over 100 parents. TAs from the Branch worked with groups of 10 parents demonstrating and teaching parents in these necessary skills.
In addition parents heard presentations from the Meningitis Association and were shown the correct method of attaching a car seat safely. All those who attended felt the sessions were worthwhile and valued the opportunity to ask questions during both the presentations and the teaching sessions.

In appreciation of them providing free courses to Geoff Morgan, giving him the opportunity to "hone" his IT skills, the Branch Management Committee have awarded Fleet Learning Centre a "Friends of the Society" certificate.
Geoff is seen here presenting the certificate to General Manager, Cathy Smith, and Tutor, David Dewhurst.
